I have been stressed out at work.  We have moved offices which causes stress.  I supervise an IT person that cannot prioritize his work and I let him go.  I had to go to Washington D.C. to report on a program that I was nervous about. I went to church the week before the trip on a fast Sunday.  A friend’s daughter was having surgery, so the ward was fasting for the family.  I felt all of the cares of the world leave me on Sunday as I was thinking of someone else and the problems they have.  I’m thankful for the Holy Ghost that touches my heart.  I don’t really understand the need for Christ and don’t understand the atonement.  But I do understand how I feel when I read the scriptures, pray, and sometimes even go to church.

Softball

3.  Courtney's Grandpa.  When ever anyone's phone rings "Court you better answer your grandpa" practicing and they all see grandpa drive up on a practice day.

 I have not written in this in a while and I doubt anyone knows how to locate this blog.

Book- The First  Two Thousand Years- Adam and Eve were probably cut off from Christ for 60 years.  During this time they learned how to cope without revelation from Christ.  There is a lesson to be learned here.

 Sunday the twenty seventh 2020 September I have been going to the garden evry day too look at my peppers i have a maricachi pepper hot portugal pepper apache pepper cayane pepper tabasco peppo and the banna pepper but the thing is my dad got a new pepper but he ripped it out but i rescued it but it has four 1 centimeter pepper and i have been examineing it for now three months i have been coding stuff with my awesome brain and i have have been examining miracle man i have 2 blue prints and i have had time with my dad so we had burrito meet and i made pepper pouder i have been playing videogames with my brother eric i am trying to be realy nice but sometimes i screw up and he hates me but i always will love him and i hope he fells the same about me i realy try to be nice but the only time he is nice is when we are playing video games together but i will always and forever love him portect him and help him always and forever. we had a no shirt dinner and we had pop it may not be a big deal but i don't have much and i have been playing basketball and football i play pointguard and shooting guard in football i play qb quarter back because my team can not play the position and i am realy good at it i play corner back because i can stick up with the other people speed so i get losts of interseptions but i can also play reciver because i have jukes but people don't think i can becuase but i can.i use to play baseball and i played pitcher and third base and was not great at pitcher but i am really good at third but i gave up on baseball for basketball but ya. I was trying to be nice to the family but it is not working.so doring choronovirus covid19 i went two 2 days but now i am going to 4 days i am exited but evrybody is going to get sick so school will end. I am ending my journal with the golden rule treat others as you want to be treated.

Home Maint

By the way all the kids loved going canoeing and paddle boarding yesterday.  David is so small,  he runs up and down jumping on his board.  It is funny to watch.

7/3/2020 Replace ceiling fan in Eric and David's bathroom.  I got the cheapest one they have because it was the only kind that match the dry wall cut out.  It tool me under 5 minutes to install but I don't want to go to the trouble of cutting out sheet rock, turning off the power, etc.

Replaced the handle on the toilet in my bathroom.  Not sure why those break so often.  Will start keeping track.  I bout the $9.00 one which is not the cheapest, not the most expensive.

Garden 2020

So I have learned some things gardening this year.  I wanted to grow peppers this year.  We have not had luck with them in the past.  I mistakenly thought the plants could survive as long as it is above freezing.  It turns out anything under 45 degrees will kill them and they don't like to be under 50 degrees.  Don't start them until the lows are over 50 degrees.  We will see if  the tomatoes survived.  they appear to be a little more resilient.  Anything under 45 degrees with them is not a good idea either.  Used old dirt on the very north plant.  Used new mix on the very west.  Not strong and not good.  I placed chicken manure on the very bottom.  I don't like chicken manure.  I read that if it is 90 days old you are ok to use, but then many sources say you have to  compost for a year or you are at risk of samanila poisoning.

For peppers 3 gallons are good.  Peat moss is good.  Need drainage hole in the bottom of your pots.
Growing in the ground should be 1/3 peat moss.
Don't need to feed them until they are bigger.  Only plant peppers at the soil line.
Peppers will need support if growing bell pepper, especially not in pots.

Tomatoes: 16 inches wide and a foot deep.  Space holes two feet apart.
5/15/2020- I buried three plants 5/7/2020 and one week later they look like they have not grown.  The same thing happened last year.  The first two weeks they did nothing.  Then they took off.  Probably takes a while to get over the shock of being buried.

I made a couple of mistakes:  1)  I planted the 4 plants that came into one container in one big pot.  Next time one plant per container.  2)  I planted the garden when it was to cold and killed the plants.  Then I planted when it was unseasonably hot.  Don't plant if it is 94 degrees in May.  Wait for it to cool down.

My tomato plants were not robust until around 6/19/2020.  Some died because I transplanted them wrong.  Also, In May, the weather was cold then hot then cold.  Think about not planting until June 1st.  Peppers are doing well but it is a struggle.  Think about buying a stake that you can stake them to.  Also the clips things seem good to get on amazon.

7/15/2020 Tomatoes starting to form.  They seem to form the most on plants that have been pruned.
7/20/2020 Picked 1 Portugal and jalapeno pepper.  However, some of the plants such as Tabasco are flowering, but no vegetable to date.

Place one 8 foot post in ground.  Do single vine pruning- only allow one vine to grow up post.  Prune everything else. September 1st, stop single vine pruning and let it grow out.

Have a group that get pruned to one or two gauges so they can ripen earlier than the rest of the group.

Tomatoes started getting ripe 8/20;  Have a few 8/27;  tons of peppers;

Tons of f at 8/27, the stuff eliminates all of them, but if you don't have that and working you will get over run.

Tomatoes

I planted two big boy tomatoes and two beef stake tomatoes.  Everyone said this was a bad year for tomatoes.  But we had a ton of tomatoes.  The tomatoes on the east side of the trellis did not have as much sun during the year.  They were slower to start than the tomatoes on the left side.  We probably harvested about 250 pounds of tomatoes.  The plants grew over and down the 6 foot U shaped trellis.  It was most excellent.  The one regret I have is that I was too busy and did not pull all of the green tomatoes off the trellis before the first frost.  I let a significant amount of tomatoes exposed to the frost.  Probably 70 pounds worth.  It's not like I can give them to neighbors because they don't taste as good as an August or September tomato.  Now I'm feeding these to the chickens.  Probably 90- 120 orange size tomatoes.  on the positive side, we canned almost 100 bottles, had fresh salsa every week, spaghetti sauce, and even barbecue sauce.  It was a lot of fun.

I Need to Take Pictures

I just wanted to write about how amazing Lisa is.  I was not going to enroll Lisa in Rec this year but one of the coaches asked if I would help coach and asked if Lisa would play.  I told him that Lisa will miss a lot of games but if he was ok with that I would help.  Well the first few games we lost 21-3, 19-1, 18-2, etc.  Last night we just beat the first place team.  It is amazing how one player can turn a team completely around.  Lisa is the only player I know  of that can do that.  She kills it in four areas: 1) Her teammates love her and she makes them better.  I'm told by the parents that they have an energy when Lisa is there.  2) Lisa killed them catching, making double plays, and other amazing plays throwing girls out.  3) Lisa killed the ball hitting generating a ton of offense 4) Lisa kills it pitching, no one can touch her.  It is fun playing on this team because there are five teammates from the ward, so they are all friends.  Her YW Pres was there yesterday to cheer her on.  The only thing I don't like is the sportsmanship.  Kaysville is ine of the worst.  I take a lot of abuse.  The coach last night kept jawing at me "How is comp going for you" in a real derogatory way.  Finally I said to him " I won't be seeing you at high school next year"  basically stating that his kid sucks and that he is narrow minded making such a big deal about a little league game.  When I said that he lost his temper and chaos ensued.  Parents were yelling, the ump came over to break things up.  Softball coaches are white trash.  If you find a good coach it is important to stick with it.  Kaysville is bush league.  Lisa is lucky she has a good coach on Sting and that her teammates are so nice. 

End of School

So, I have not seen much of Lisa this week.  She has turned into a teenager and is never home.  She was telling me she spent last night with her friends sitting around a fire in Audrey's back yard slowly burning school papers in a fire pit.  She said it took two hours for them to burn everything. Then she was going on about how the previous night the scouts could not get the fire lit in the same pit, but that she did it with no help from adults.  I coach Lisa's rec team and they all go trophies.  Lisa has been fun.  She is about 6 steps in front of the next best girl but it's all still fun.  She only pitches one inning a game and smokes them. Then she plays catcher and at the last game did not throw any one out, but made 3 tags at home in two innings.  She is really fun.

5/4 and 5/5/2018 Orem Tournament

Lisa pitched in three games on 5/4/2018 and saved the team those games.  She hit the ball really hard on 5/4/2018.  On 5/5/2018 she pitched two games.  She is so good and so fun to watch.

Feb 23 24 2018 Tournament

We had a really fun tournament this past weekend.  Lisa is so talented, it is fun watching her play.  The first team we played was from Vegas.  We beat them pretty good.  They were good, they went on to win the Silver bracket.  The next game was windy and snowing.  Lisa was pitching that game.  She did great.  It was two - two until the third inning, and then she fell apart.  It was so cold that I don't know how she lasted that long.  The  opposing team was very good  comprising of players from Ogden to American Fork.  It amazes me that Lisa can shut down that kind of talent.

The next game Sting came from behind to beat the team.  Lisa made plays on third base that kept the team in the game.  She made them look routine but she is the only one on the team capable of making those plays. The first was she was hit a routine ground ball to third and she looked back the girl on third and went to make the throw, and the opposing team then sent the girl on third.  Lisa saw it and changed positions and fired it home and Aspen tagged the girl out.  She had people talking about that play all day.  She made a couple of other hard plays look routine, getting outs for the team.  The game was really fun and Sting came back to win.  Lisa is a play maker and she made plays on third all weekend.

Another game against a very good team, Lisa was pitching.  She did awesome.  Sting were down but Lisa kept the game really close.  The team rallied back from 4-2.  Lisa hit a double and knocked in two runs to tie the game.  In extra innings the Sting came came back and won.  Lisa pitched the whole game and did so good.  The team was elite- they were really good.  One thing that was really fun is that the whole place went bonkers when they were making a come back.  Another fun thing was that Emily and three of her team mates (boy were they loud and can cheer) were there and were routing for Lisa.  They all know Lisa and were saying stuff like " I want to Mentor Lisa"  and "Lisa is so inspiring"  and they were fun.  I was talking with them and they play at Viewmont, Woods Cross, and Bountiful High. (Their team kicked major but and went on to win their tournament)  I think it's cool that Lisa knows all these cool kids in high school but she is too young for high school. 
 
So, David got his Croup/RSV sickness and we had to take him into the emergency room Sunday morning.  That was fun.

St. George November 10th and 11th

We had a really fun tournament in St. George this last weekend.  Lisa did awesome and it is fun to watch her play.

Weather was fanastic.

It is impossible to get the boys to shut up.  Unless they have an ipad to play with.  Then they turn into zombies.  It is so awesome.

Joking around with coaches about Chuck.  The consensus is that Chuck is the best at what he does, but it was also funny how Meurrelli was joking around how he does not really coach any more and that usually you just end up stuck holding a weighted bat.  I was laughing the whole rest of the day about that one.

R.'s Walkoff Seals the Deal in UT Sting Victory Over Rage

UT Sting took their game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off triple at the end of the game to topple Rage. The game was tied at seven with UT Sting batting in the bottom of the fourth when Molly Roberts tripled on a 3-0 count, scoring one run.

Bats blistered as UT Sting collected six hits and Rage tallied six in the high-scoring game.

Rage got on the board in the first
inning when Shaylee Conterras homered on a 2-2 count scoring two runs.

Lisa Rasmussen earned the win for UT Sting.
She went three innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out
three.

Emily Smith took the loss for Rage. She allowed six hits and eight runs over three and a third innings, striking out four.

She lasted one inning, allowing three hits and three runs.

Hannah Barton and Lisa all had multiple hits for UT Sling. Lisa Rasmussen and Hannah Barton all had two hits to lead UT Sting.

Teaching the Kids How to Work

When I was growing up I had lazy friends that never had any money, I had friends that worked hard and had money, and I had friends that spent like crazy because their parents had a lot of money.  I believe working hard is good and I'm not a fan of the other two ideas.  Wendy and I decided we want to teach money skills to the kids, so we are helping them learn how to do yard work for money.  This year we thought they could mow lawns.  So we have them mowing lawns at the apartments.  As long as they stay at $20 an hour I rationalized this is good money  for 10 and 11 year-olds, it will teach them to work, and they can learn how to spend money.  So far it has been good.  Especially for Lisa.  She has been going out with friends and the last time they were at U of U she mentioned that her friends like to spend $10 for lunch and that it adds up.  These are good lessons to learn.  But, it has been a big pain in butt because I have been driving the kids to the apartments.  So the pay comes out to $20 an  hour but when you include that my time is involved, it is not such a great deal.  I'm not sure this is all necessary.  I think they work hard doing their sport and therefor perhaps they don't need to mow lawns to learn about money.  I'm trying to figure this parenting thing out.  Most kids are playing games on the computer while Lisa and Eric are working their butt off in the sun playing any kind of ball.  Or, perhaps the apartment thing is a good idea, and it is a good idea for me to give them supervision for safety reasons until next year when the kids can recruit  mowing lawns in the neighborhood. I hardly get on Facebook, but it's amazing how easy it is to get work using Facebook.   Wendy has a good reputation in the neighborhood, and someone posted that they were looking for a babysitter.  Wendy responded that Lisa could do it and now the whole neighborhood texts every week wondering if Lisa can babysit.  I'm sure the same thing goes for lawns.

Lisa- Lisa played in the Bear River Tournament this weekend and she played great.  I always have fun watching her play.  One of the teams we played was really good.  They were hotdogs, and they had one player that was really full of herself.  She hit a shot to center right field and was trying to get an in-the-park home run.  Well, Lisa is a competitor.  The throw came in and there was a huge collision.  Lisa got the girl out, but got banged up with a girl that is two years older.  It makes my heart sink when that stuff happens.  Lisa was shaken up but she was back out the next inning.  Side note- I laugh when parents say they are afraid to put their kids in football. Yes, every football game several kids get banged up. Eric and Lisa have been hurt more times playing competitive baseball and softball than Eric has playing football so far.  If you play sports you are lucky if you have never been banged up.

I took some days off while the kids were on spring break.  Wendy and I decided to put in a shed in the corner of our back yard.  Lisa and Eric were a big help in putting it together.  Lisa was a huge help.  Even David went with me to pick up gravel for the base of the shed.  It is a nice shed, but the kids have wanted to sleep in it every Saturday we have had it up.  So, it is empty right now and I'm going to let the kids sleep in it as long as they want to.  Then I will fill it up with a ton of stuff.

Snakes

I once had an accounting professor tell us that everyone knows bad writing when they read it but not everyone is a good writer.  I was reading some of my older entries on my blog and my writing is pretty poor at times.  I'm glad I don't worry about that or I would never get anything down.




Bear River Classic- Tremonton


Lisa- Last week Lisa played in double headers on Saturday and then again on Monday in  Clinton.  It was fun to be outside in the nice weather to watch her play.  Her team is not very good.  They are playing against older girls and that extra year does make a huge difference at this age.  The coaches said they want Lisa to pitch because their pitching has not been so hot.  So we have been working on that a little, and we will see how it goes.  Even though the team is struggling to win games, the girls are the nicest and most fun girls you could have as teammates.  Lisa could try out for a different team, one that is better, one that is out of town every weekend, and has better coaching.  But, her coaches are nice, she gets to pick where she plays, and she has fun.  Last week the coach took a mini van full of the girls and they went to Logan to see Kylie play Utah State.  When the coach dropped Lisa off the whole van could not stop laughing, they apparently were like that all the way from Logan.  They all just have so much fun.

Eric- Try outs of little league were last week and the comp coaches were all in attendance trying to round off their rosters.  Eric was invited to play on two teams.  I hate telling the coaches he can't play.  I tell them all that Eric really wants to play and that I won't let him.  The truth is that he looks really good for about two months and then he gets tired of it and stops working, which is fine by me.  I would rather he plays all the sports.  He was invited to play on a team and he told the person "My Dad won't let me play."  He never even told me about it, I found out through Lisa. To me, that is a huge compliment of his baseball skills.  To Eric, I really  don't think he cares.  Eric gets really excited to play the sport that is in season.  And he works hard at that sport.  I don't think there is anything wrong with that and I'm glad he has fun.  It appears all the football kids that play baseball got on the same team and Eric is excited to be with his friends.  The coach was one of the assistant football coaches and Eric likes his kid.  He was the quarterback last year.   He will have fun with these guys.
     Eric finished his coding book at his after-school class so now him and two other kids are learning HTML. What's next, C++ by the sixth grade?

David- is into snakes right now.  He walks around the house with his snake book showing me these gross pictures of snakes.  David has the same baseball coach as last year.  I like those guys.  I have not seen them this year because dealing with Lisa is a full time job.  But Wendy tells me all about the team and the shenanigans.  My favorite line from David's coach is " Kids, listen to me, you can screw around all you want in school, but this is baseball, PAY ATTENTION!"  You have to know these guys to know they are not kidding.  There is always something to talk about with all these personalities.  I find it all very entertaining.

Rambling

So, I took down my last post because after reading it again I'm not sure it made sense when I was trying to explain my Dad's circle of trust thing.  Things have been fun but busy around here.  I went to the temple with Wendy on our Anniversary Friday night.  That was nice.  It seems like I'm at the stage of life where I always have more questions than answers after attending the temple.  I guess this is a good thing because it has me thinking.  It always humbles me  observing all the patrons engaged in serving others.  A lot of money, time, and resources are dedicated to temple work.  I  know I don't make it a high enough priority right now. Katie gave me a stack of people to work on in our family, and I'm on my second or third year working on it.  I hope she does not give up on me because it seems I have a more spiritual experience as I do work for my own family.
    Lisa is playing softball.  She likes it and I think it is fun too.  Their coach has always kissed-ass up until now.  There was friction this last weekend and it is going to get worse.  I enrolled Lisa in Rec softball because  1) we think it will be fun. and 2) I would like Lisa to play with kids in her own neighborhood.  Her current softball team has one kid from Roy, two from Syracuse, three from Kaysville, three from Farmington, two from Centerville, and two from Bountiful.   I'm wondering how important this is in the big scheme of things.  Also, Lisa (and Eric and David) are talented in academics and music.  I'm wondering if they should be involved in sports that are less competitive so they can focus their efforts in other avenues.  Track and field, swimming, and all the other olympic sports don't require the same commitment as baseball/softball which are insanely competitive.  We went to a UU baseball game yesterday and those athletes are not college athletes.  It's pro-ball under the guise of college athletics.  It was amazing the stuff those athletes can do.  The other team was a division I school  but did not even belong on the same field. Wendy went over and was chatting with some of the Pro scouts that were in attendance and it was fun to listen to a MLB perspective to the game.
     At Sunday school we have a really talented teacher.  She brought up some really interesting thoughts about Joseph Smith.  But, I was also thinking about the youth.  I was watching one of the bishopric members interact with the youth and I was thinking to myself how much fun the guy is and how lucky those kids are to have these leaders that make sacrifices of their time.  The young women leaders are good too and I'm excited for Lisa to attend camp this year.  Lisa has a tournament in Idaho the same time as camp, but both Wendy and I have been discussing not going to the tournament to attend camp.  I think she will have a lot of fun, and when I look back, it was between the age of 12-18 that my testimony of the gospel grew the most in my lifetime.  Lisa played around 130 ball games last year and I don't think we will regret it if it is 124 or what ever because we make her attend camp.

Time is going super fast and I'm not able to post everything. Oh well.  I will post a couple of things and keep moving forward.

Lisa, Emily, and Sophie hanging out between games.  All of her teammates are the nicest girls. The girls have been doing some things together off the field and it's funny to hear Lisa say things like " I have never seen Molly in Jeans", or "Hannah looks nice wearing a dress"  She also was commenting the other day that a couple of her teammates are high energy-out of control-hooligans when off the field.  One of them surprised me because on the field she is so shy.

One funny thing- Heather and Peter were telling us this funny story of how they attended a wedding in Southern California and they stayed at a Motel-6.  All of their Dr. friends stayed at $600 a night hotels.  Well at this tournement we were the only ones that stayed at the Super 8.  I guess I'm frugal.  It's a Rasmussen thing.  The coach said next time he wants us all to stay in the same condo complex to promote team unity.  So much for our cheap (but spacious) $100 a night hotel room.

Ice Cream

 Sunday night Lisa's Sunday school teachers took their kids to one of their ice cream facilities in Ogden.  It was a big deal and Lisa said everyone had a lot of fun. She said they all tried six different flavors.  I don't know, I just think it is cool of the Farr's to do that.  When I was growing up I had few teachers that were so fun and did that kind of stuff.

I don't have any pictures but she also played third base and made some amazing plays.  She tagged a girl out, and fielded a really hard hit ball and threw it to first.  She made the play look easy.

This football game did not go over so well.  It turned out the team we played was good, but not that good.  However, the league brought in a hot-shot high school reffing crew; two of them were jerks, the other two were fine.   We lost the game because of this crew and as you can imagine  a lot of people were pissed.  Everything that is wrong with sports- it happened during this game.  And it all happened on the Farmington side.  They did not call the other team on any penalties, just us.  Multiple people were ejected throughout the game.  Even the umpire got in it with a parent towards the end.  I like the way our head coach handled the situation.  He is such a good coach and a good example to the kids.  He also commands great respect.  A couple of times parents started swearing so the flags started to fly.  After the refs made the call John just turned around and said "who said that!" and the parents immediately took responsibility and left the facilities.  I think everyone respects John so much they will do what ever he says.  That is a huge compliment to our coach considering how high emotions tend to run at these things.  I think it is a good example to have a coach that gets fired up in the right way.  He is kind of like Kyle Whittingham- gets fired up and yells a lot but cares about the kids and puts a lot of thought into the kids.  It's a wonder we only lost by 6 points with this crew.

Eric made all his plays at center.  He only had one bad hike out of the shotgun but it was good enough that the quarter back got it and made a play.

One thing that I really like about football is the camaraderie between the players is the highest of any sport.  The families too. We often would go out out eat and hang out with the other families which is common from everyone I talk to who has a child that played football.  It is pretty cool that Eric has his football family and that they all look out for each other.  It was a great year!

Eric played well in his first playoff game.   His team is good.  But they are undersized.  We only have one X-man;  the other team had the whole line of X-men and they had a full back that was huge.  They kept handing off to the big full back and he would gain 3-4 yards every play.  They could never break a play because our guys were too fast.  It was a fun game.  Jett hits so hard.  This next game we are supposed to get creamed, but you never know because we have a lot of good athletes.

So today Lisa was catching for Reagan again.  It makes me nervous.  But they all think it's fun.  They are all fun to hang out with in all, but Reagan throws hard.  They were all asking how old Lisa is and they think it is fun that she can catch.

Two or three weeks ago against Kaysville.  I found it interesting that we absolutely blew them out considering Davis High is the dominant player around here.  One thing is for certain, Davis High will not be dominant without the Farmington kids.  Will be interesting to see how the new high school shakes things up.  It was nice of Mom to put her arm around Eric after the game- he was a ball of sweat.
